Hi! I’m Whitney. I started blogging in 2010 as a way to keep in touch with far away family and friends. I was working in non-profit educational fundraising at the time, I read a lot of blogs, and I used The Curtis Casa as a creative outlet and a way to make new friends. I took a better job at a bigger school and was hopeful about a career in fundraising. Spoiler alert, I ended up miserable. I wasn't thriving. I felt like I was in the wrong place at the wrong time. So I poured more and more into the blog. I reached out to people with interesting jobs in the online world that I thought I might like. I worked with Home Depot on garden DIY posts. I freelanced a garden column for Better Homes & Gardens. I felt good about the possibility of a career in the online/blog/content world, but had no idea how it would come about. After lots of discussions (there were lots of tears) with my sweet husband, I quit my non-profit fundraising job in January 2013. I jumped in head first to the full time blogging and online content world. I spent nine wonderful months blogging, emailing, idea-ing, writing, and blogging some more. Now, I’m Senior Editor at Home Depot where I blog full time. (See Home Depot’s The Apron blog here!)
On The Curtis Casa, I like to keep it light and fun. Here you will find projects from around our house, a little bit about gardening, a little bit about style, and fun things from the internet.
A simpler "About" section? I love being outdoors, getting my hands dirty, interior design, fresh cut flowers, family time, thick magazines, soft sweatpants, gold jewelry, brass accents, and making lists. I keep ideas in a pretty notebook and lipstick in my purse.
